Over the last 10 years, Cindy and I have been leading groups of people who are new to the world of off-roading out on run to help teach them about their Jeep and how to use it out on the trail. For the most part, we’ve been doing this up in the El Paso Mountains near the town of Ridgecrest and out on a trail known as, Last Chance Canyon.
In this short video clip, you’ll get to see Moby, our 2007 Jeep JK Wrangler take on a tough, steep hill climb and back when we were still running a 3.8L motor and a manual transmission. We hope you enjoy.
After Dynomax announced the release of their all new QuietCrawler Performance Exhaust System earlier this year and noted that it was “specifically designed to provide high clearance for rockcrawling and quiet acoustics for everyday driving in your 3.6L Jeep Wrangler 4 door”, we knew it was something we had to try.
Of course, being that Monday is the start of the work week, we even decided to head out to the office and push ourselves by working a double shift. In other words, we ran two trails instead of just one.
It’s nothing special but here’s a short video clip of Moby having some fun out in some fresh fluffy snow.
Unfortunately for us, we had to spend the better part of the day behind a computer but as soon as we finished our work, we packed up Rubicat and headed out to a nearby mall and spent some time playing on the speed bumps.
On this particular year, Cindy wanted to head out to the Nightingale Mountains to explore some of the amazing rock formations, petroglyphs, colorful canyons, mine ruins and… other weird stuff you can sometimes find out in the middle of nowhere.
As much as Cindy and I love to play on the rocks, it has always been our love of the desert and our passion for exploring it that brought us into the world of Jeeps. It is for this reason that we always try to spend the first weekend of January taking friends out into the Mojave Desert and to show them some of the amazing places and things we’ve found over the years.
Even though we have covered vast sections of the Mojave over the last 25 years, there were still places we had yet to see and some of them were out in an area known a the Shadow Valley and Turquoise Mountain.
Thanks to a post that M38A1Driver made here not too long ago, I was reminded of an airway beacon out in the Mojave Desert that I had known about for quite some time but wasn’t sure if you could actually get up to it.
As we have done for as long as I can remember, Cindy and I made our way down to the Mojave Desert to kick off the New Year with good friends both old and new and out on the trail. For 2016, we decided to revisit a part of the Mojave that we hadn’t been out to in a few years and it is known as, the Black Mountain Wilderness.
