Die-Tech Off-Road Seat Mounted Fire Extinguisher

September 29, 2009 wayoflife 1

Fire extinguishers are valuable off-road and most off-road parks and recreation areas require that you have one. However, it’s a good idea to have one even when not required, because a fire can start for many different reasons.

Off Road Evolution Conquers
the Rubicon Trail Little Sluice Box!!

September 29, 2009 wayoflife 9

By far, the most difficult section along the Rubicon, the Little Sluice (also known as the “Sluice Box”) is essentially a narrow crack about 100 yards long and situated between a granite wall on one side and granite slab on the other. Now, what makes this crack so challenging is that it’s filled with enourmous, ill positioned boulders made slick from countless spinning tires and a myriad of fluids left behind from fallen rigs that were either cut open, laid on their side or flopped on their lids. Being that this section of trail is virtually impassable, there are two different bypasses that one can take around it but last weekend, Mel Wade of Off Road Evolution was there to conquer it. And, as luck would have it, we had the priviledge of being invited along side feature editor, Ali Monsour from Petersen’s 4 Wheel & Off-Road and bear witness to this historic moment – the worlds first Jeep JK Wrangler tackling infamous Little Sluice.

Project-JK Highlights 5:
Dusy Ershim Trail – Chicken Rock

September 23, 2009 wayoflife 0

Approximately 31 mile in length, the Dusy Ershim is a hell of a trail that cuts through the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and straddles the John Muir and Dinky Lakes Wilderness. More than any rock garden to cross or ledge to climg, its excruciating length and slow going pace is truly what makes this a difficult trail.

Jeep JK Wrangler 42RLE
Automatic Transmission Service

September 21, 2009 Cindy 36
Changing out your Jeep JK Wrangler’s 42RLE Automatic Transmission fluid and filter is something you should do as a good part of regular maintenance. And, while doing this isn’t something as easy as a normal engine oil change where you basically pull a drain plug, swap out an external filter and refill with oil when done, it certainly isn’t a difficult job and doing it yourself can save you a lot of money. Of course, having the right tools will make all the difference and as is the case with all my write-ups, I have included a complete list of everything you will need to make this job go without a hitch.

Dusy Ershim Trail – A Tight Squeeze

September 15, 2009 wayoflife 3

The Dusy Ershim is a 31 mile long trail that cuts through the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and straddles the John Muir and Dinky Lakes Wilderness. It is an excruciatingly long trail that isn’t so much as difficult as it is relentless. In fact, in addition to the beauty you will find, one of the things that makes the Dusy so famous is the mile after arduous mile of squeezing your Jeep between closely planted trees. Now, I had always been told that a long wheel base vehicle couldn’t do this trail and from experience, I can tell you that nothing could be further than the truth. While length will make things more challenging, it is the width of your vehicle that’ll make it really tough.

Moab Steel Bender Trail Ledge Climb

September 9, 2009 wayoflife 0

Like many of the trails in Moab, Steel Bender is one that is rated “difficult” and is one that offers a lot of tough ledges to climb. In this Project-JK YouTube Video Highlight, you will see a few short clips that show a series of Jeep JK Wranglers (both 2-Door and 4-Door) climbing up a large optional ledge close to the beginning of the trail. This ledge is not only big but it’s also one that has soft sand at its base and does a fine job of kicking things up a notch. Lockers definitely help here but knowing how to “bump” your way up and maintain good throttle control sure makes a big difference as well.
