Okay, while this short video may not be exactly “UNCUT�, it definitely gives you a good “RAW� look at just how tough Winch Hill #1 really is on the Fordyce Creek Trail.
Earlier in the year, I got a message from a guy named David who lives in Canada and frequents JK-Forum.com. In it, he said that he and a few buddies of his were planning a trip down to the Rubicon and was hoping that Cindy and I might be willing to lead them through.
Just a little past the Carlisle Mine and just before the second water crossing on the Fordyce Creek Trail, there is technical rocky hill you can take on known simply as, “Winch Hill #1�.
For those of you who’ve been following us on our Facebook or Google+ fan pages, you’ll know that we’ve just purchased a brand new 2012 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon in Dozer Yellow.
We’ve been attending the Off Road Expo for a long time now and, while 2011 may not have been as big as some of the ones before the economic downturn, I will have to say that it was one of the biggest and best we’ve seen in a long time.
In an effort to satisfy the concerns of environmental groups, a new route was recently cut on the Fordyce Creek Trail to direct traffic up and around a deep mud bog near the Carlisle Mine.
Thanks to the lower water levels we saw in September, the second water crossing on the Fordyce Creek Trail was nowhere as deep as the first. Still, it was a lot of fun to ford especially being that it is rockier under the surface and, that the water flow is considerably more rapid here.
One of the most challenging obstacles on the Fordyce Creek Jeep Trail is fording the creek itself. With the exception of about a week in August when PG&E restricts the water flow for the annual Sierra Trek Event, the water level is often very high and moving fast enough to make the required crossings impassible.
For one week during the month of September, 22 Jeep JK Wranglers from around the country and from as far as Canada, gathered in the state of Colorado to traverse almost 1,000 miles though the breathtaking Rocky’s, explore famous historic mining towns and, take on some of the most challenging off-road trails that can be found anywhere.
The Holy Cross Trail is considered to be one of the most difficult hard-core trails in the state of Colorado and, in this short video clip, you’ll get to see just how well both the Falken Tire Jeep JK Wrangler and the Falken Wildpeak AT’s performed on one of the trails most difficult obstacle, the French Creek rock garden.
When it comes to Jeep envy, nothing will give it to you more than seeing a JK in action with a HEMI under it’s hood. Here’s a short clip of Rob Graft of Nemesis Industries in their HEMI powered Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited simply tear up the last ledge climb out of Billings Canyon like it was a walk in the park.
