Pro Comp ACCU PRO Jeep JK Wrangler
Speedometer & Odometer Calibrator

Unlike previous Jeep Wranglers that had a simple gear in the transfer case that you could change out with ease, the all new JK Wrangler is completely computer controlled now and calibrating it’s speedometer and odometer to match any tire taller than 32″ or a gear ratio any higher than 4.10 was virtually impossible. That is, at least until now anyway. Thanks to the guys over at 4 Wheel Drive Hardware who just sent me the Pro Comp ACCU PRO, I was able to accurately calibrate both the speedometer and odometer on my Jeep JK Wrangler that is currently running 315/70R17’s (approximately a 35×12.50) Pro Comp Xtreme M/T’s and Superior 5.13 gears. And, if I had an automatic, the ACCU PRO would have also instantly corrected the computer controlled shift points as well. Now, I will tell you that this handy device isn’t exactly cheap as it does retail for about $200 but in my humble opinion, it is well worth the cost especially since it can be used over and over again to keep your Jeep’s speedometer and odometer reading accurately throughout the life span of your tires. Of course, once you do get new tires, you will most likely need it again. And, as a final added bonus, the ACCU PRO can also read and clear diagnostic trouble codes and that’s something everyone can always use sooner or later.

Instructions

Here’s a pic of all the things you will get with your new Pro Comp ACCU PRO Speedometer & Odometer Calibrator.
1. Insert the CD ROM that you will get with your Pro Comp ACCU PRO into your computer and install the Tuner Software that comes on it. Then, use the USB cable that comes with the kit to connect your ACCU PRO to your computer, run the Tuner Software and carefully follow the step by step instructions it gives you. During this process, the Tuner Software will go online and will look for any firmware updates that the ACCU PRO needs to install.
2. Insure that the tires on your Jeep JK Wrangler are properly inflated. Then, using a tape measure and a straight egde placed on top of one of your tires, measure  what the actual height of it is as shown in this pic. NOTE: After doing this a couple of times, I have found that simply measuring from the ground to the shoulder edge on top your tire will give you a more accurate measurement.
3. Climb inside your Jeep JK Wrangler, make sure your parking brake is set, insert your key into the ignition and then turn it to the RUN position but DO NOT start the engine itself.
4. Connect the programming cable to your ACCU PRO and to your Jeep JK Wrangler’s OBDII diagnostics port which is located under the driver side dash as shown in this pic. NOTE:
During the ENTIRE programming process, it is very important that you DO NOT remove or disturb the programming cable. The only time you should remove the cable from your Jeep JK Wrangler’s OBDII diagnostic port is when the ACCU PRO informs you that the installation has been completed.
It is also very important that you DO NOT leave your Jeep JK Wrangler during the programming process.
5. Once everything has been plugged in, the ACCU PRO programmer will display specific instructions for you to follow on its screen and you can make the appropriate selections needed by using the UP/DOWN and YES/NO buttons on the side of it. And, when you are prompted with the following message: TO ENTER PROGRAMMER MODE, PRESS Y TO EXIT PROGRAM,
PRESS NPress the “Y” button to enter the programmer mode.
6. Your ACCU PRO should now be prompting you with the following message: IF TIRE HEIGHT HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM ORIGINAL, PRESS Y IF TIRE HEIGHT HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED, PRESS NPress the “Y” button and then use the ARROW buttons on the ACCU PRO to enter in the actual tire height of your new tires (the ACCU PRO will allow you to enter in a measurement that is accurate to a 1/4″). Then, press the “Y” button again to select it.
7. Your ACCU PRO should now be prompting you with the following message: IF REAR AXLE RATIO HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM ORIGINAL, PRESS Y
IF REAR AXLE RATIO HAS NOT BEEN CHANGED, PRESS NIf you are still running stock gears, press the “N” button at this time. If you have upgraded your gears to 4.88’s or 5.13’s like I have, press the “Y” button now and use the ARROW buttons on the ACCU PRO to locate the gear ratio you are currently running on your Jeep JK Wrangler. Then, press the “Y” button again to select it.
  8. The ACCU PRO will now scroll across its screen the tire size and gear ratio you have selected and if the information is correct, press the “Y” button to begin the programming of your Jeep JK Wrangler’s computer. If it’s not correct, press the “N” button to start over again. The ACCU PRO will notify you when it is finished programming your Jeep JK Wrangler’s computer. When it does and ONLY when it does, you may disconnect it from the OBDII diagnostics port.

That’s it, you’re done. Your Jeep JK Wrangler’s speedometer and odometer should now be calibrated to match the tire size and gear ratio you are currently running and they should both be reading correctly now. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  1. I tried this but i came up with an error. It said C1: abs control module. I think this is most likely because my jk has a tsb for the abs control module that hasn’t been fixed yet. we will see.

  2. is this available for use/reflash at any dealer/install shop. I would like to get my odometer and speedometer correct, but not for $200

  3. Eddie, I sure hope that this works, I put Procomp 33 on my JK this summer, I keep sending it back to the dealer because the resets have not worked, a waste of $240.00. I had to pay twice for the two resets from the dealer and they are only good to a 33 tire size. this sounds like a much better way to go.

    Thanks for the info.

  4. I have two JK’s, will this let me calibrate speedo on both, because in the past have bought products, in order for them to work on other vehicles you have to set everything back to stock before it would work on another.

  5. Hi gjeepguy, sorry but I don’t think there are any dealerships that have this tool and/or will be able to help you out.

Hey Robert, actually, you should get your money back from your dealer as they can only calibrate your Jeep’s computer to read 32″ tires, NOT 33’s. They just ripped you off. As far as the Accu Pro goes, it does really work.

Hi Thomas, the one I have will work on multiple vehicles but from what I’m told, they will soon be made with VIN locks so that you can’t.

Hey Mike, yes, once you get things set, you will be able to have the speedo, odometer and other functions working again.

  6. Does anyone know if I can program it for a smaller wheel? I’m building a custom sport low-rider style wrangler JK for a company. I’m assuming the speed will be off, would this product be able to adjust for that?

    Thanks in advance,

    Tony

  7. Eddie,

I just called 4wd.com…they told me they weren’t selling Pro Comp ACCU PRO Programmer Unit at this time. The rep I talked to, Justin, said it wasn’t listed in their system currently. Any word on what’s going on?

    Joe

  8. Hey Eddie,
I just installed my BB 2.5 lift yesterday. YOu had mentioned that you live in Laguna Niguel. Could I drop by to borrow your ACCU PRO to calibrate my 35in tires?
    Thanks,
    Troy

  9. Has anyone had any issues with the programmer not reading the Onboard computer? I follow the instructions, plug it in, and it keeps telling me to push the Y button when connected. I do it says reading onboard computer but then goes back to “attach, turn to run and hit the “Y” button.??? Can someone throw me a bone?

  10. I received my AccuPro from Northridge and the box says it is for a 2003-2007 Dodge Hemi 5.7L Truck/SUV. I e-mailed Northridge and they said as long as it is part # PC52001-1, then I am fine. Can anyone else that has received this verify that this part # is the correct one? I am nervous to plug something into my onboard computer that might not be for the right vehicle.

  11. Hey Eddie
I have been having a problem with the ESP. There is a TSB out about it. I have gone to the dealer to get the computer flashed they say they can’t cause of the bigger tires etc. They said the ESP problem is because of the bigger tires. Do you think this unit might fix my ESP activation problem?
Thanks for the help as always

  12. I got mine today. Worked like a champ. Be sure to update the software before you use the AccuPro. Update the software, not just the update to the device.

  13. Dodge Hemi. I ordered mine through Northridge 4×4. I had spoken to David and he explained to me that it was the correct unit. I don’t think ProComp has had a chance to change the packaging yet. It worked great. My Jeep shifts (automatic) much more smoothly, and at more appropriate times. I haven’t had a chance to precisely accurate the speedometer is now, but at 25mph and 65mph, I’m rolling right with traffic–so it’s approximately on target :).

I don’t think it said “JK” anywhere on my package, or in the paperwork. I had called ProComp also–Ken was very helpful. I pulled my Jet chip before I programmed my Jeep, then plugged the chip back in afterward. Everything went well.

  14. If you are talking about your ESP going off, no. You will need to get your steering wheel centered and address your suspension geometry for that.

    Eddie

  15. Eddie what do i need to do to get this done my dealership is incompatant and they are the people who put the lift on my jk. They also said fixing the tire size will fix my esp problem

  16. cd, your dealership can only calibrate your JK’s computer to read 32″ tires. If you have bigger than 32″ tires, you will need to puchase one of these ACCU PRO’s and set your speedometer yourself. As far as your ESP problem goes, calibrating your speedometer will not fix it. You need to have your steering wheel centered and caster set appropriately for that.

    Eddie

  17. Eddie I checked my steering wheel today and it cant get any more centered than it is,so the next thing to do would be check the allighnment? What about the TSB does it apply to my jeep it has a 4inch skyjacker with 35inch tires or is it just for 4×2 jeeps? I have an automatic trans the ACCU PRO will also adjust my shift points or will it.

  18. cd, If you have adjustable front upper and lower control arms, yes, you should have your caster adjusted so that it is closer to a +6°~7°. If you do not have them, there will be nothing for you to have aligned. As far as your shift points go, the ACCU PRO will set them to where they need to be in relationship to your tire size and gear ratio but you will not be able to specifically set them.

    Eddie

  19. Eddie
I have not adjusted anything all I have done is check the stearing wheel alighnment I think I will take it back to the dealership and tell them to fix it or they can buy it back. I am not seeing many new post about this problem, so what is going on is there a fix out there I have not been able to find

  20. cd, my point was that if you do not have aftermarket adjustable control arms and an aftermarket adjustable front track bar, there is nothing you can adjust. You can address your ESP issues but you will need these parts to help get it fixed.

    Eddie

  21. I went out and bought the Accu-Pro, and when I hooked it to my JK Unlimited I had DTC code P0035. Everything I found on this code ha to do with “P0035 Turbo Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit High” any ideas why? The programming was successful and I put the new tire diameter in, it just bothers me that a brand new 2008 JK would have that code.

  22. Can anyone tell me why this wouldnt work on an “X” model?? My 2008 “X” has an OBDII diagnostics port, cruise control and an onboard computer that calculates DTE and MPG the same as a Rubi or Sahara does.

  23. From what I understand, the X comes with a standard tire size that is smaller than the Sahara or Rubicon and for one reason or another, the computer programming is different because of it. I am told however that this problem should be fixed soon.

    Eddie

  24. Hello everybody, i have a Jeep wrangler – Sport 2008 , does this accu pro calibrator work for this car or only Rubicon or Sahara models? please advise

  25. I am planning on changing my gears from 3.73 to 4.10’s in my 2008 Sahara. I have stock tires and I am NOT planning on going to a larger tire size. Will I need to recalibrate my speedometer?

  26. Hi Eddie,
I know that the Hypertech is a bit more advanced and does a little more than the Pro Comp, but I wanted to get your opinion before I order one of the two. I’ve got 4.10’s, and after thinking it through, I’m almost certain all I want to do is re-calibrate the speedo/odo and the shift points. And I’ll have to re-calibrate twice a year as I change from my 35’s on Mickey Thompson Classics to 33’s on steel wheels for the winter (by BFG AT’s will run much better in the snow than my Bighorns, and the road crud will kill the aluminum wheels), and back to the 35’s in the spring. Would you say I’m right to want to save the $$ and order the Pro Comp to serve my purposes?

    Thanks,
    Dave

  27. Can one change shift points for an auto transmission by saying you have a different rear gear ratio than you really have and keep the speedometer and odometer accurate? That would be cool.

    Thanks Ken

  28. The directions talk about removing satellite radio and remote starter fuses prior to calibration with the accu pro. Has anyone done this and which ones are removed? Looks like just M10 to me.
    Thanks,
    Ross

  29. I just purchased the programmer and corrected my tire size. I have to say that for $200.00 this is NOT worth the money.. I do NOT recommend it. Yes it works but the cost is not worth it. Whats worse you can only use it on one Jeep. So if you have 2 you have 2 Jeeps you have to purchase one for each! NO WAY! If you have a manual trans it does only 2 things for you correct the tire size and correct the Diff change (If you did change it).. I would say stay away from this and force Pro-Comp to lower their prices for this cheap unit. Just my 2 cents…

  30. Has anyone had any issues with the programmer not cummunicating with the onboard computer? I follow the instructions, plug it in, and it keeps telling me to push the “Y” button when connected. I do and it says “reading onboard computer” but then goes back to “turn to run and hit the “Yâ€? button”.

    Any help would be appreciated.
