Thanks to the lower water levels we saw in September, the second water crossing on the Fordyce Creek Trail was nowhere as deep as the first. Still, it was a lot of fun to ford especially being that it is rockier under the surface and, that the water flow is considerably more rapid here.
One of the most challenging obstacles on the Fordyce Creek Jeep Trail is fording the creek itself. With the exception of about a week in August when PG&E restricts the water flow for the annual Sierra Trek Event, the water level is often very high and moving fast enough to make the required crossings impassible.
For one week during the month of September, 22 Jeep JK Wranglers from around the country and from as far as Canada, gathered in the state of Colorado to traverse almost 1,000 miles though the breathtaking Rocky’s, explore famous historic mining towns and, take on some of the most challenging off-road trails that can be found anywhere.
The Holy Cross Trail is considered to be one of the most difficult hard-core trails in the state of Colorado and, in this short video clip, you’ll get to see just how well both the Falken Tire Jeep JK Wrangler and the Falken Wildpeak AT’s performed on one of the trails most difficult obstacle, the French Creek rock garden.
When it comes to Jeep envy, nothing will give it to you more than seeing a JK in action with a HEMI under it’s hood. On a scale from 1 to 10, Billings Canyon is a trail that’s listed as being a 9. While short in length, pretty much every inch of it has you watching what you’re doing and several of the obstacles are technically demanding enough that signs have been erected to inform travelers “it’s okay to turn around and go back”.
On the way home from Tahoe last week, Trail Bud, WOLette and I decided to make a detour and do a quick run up to Kavanaugh Ridge.
Honestly, I don’t know what would have possesed us to make this final banzai run of the summer especially being that we just got home from the 2011 JK Experience Rocky Mountain Run. But, Trail Bud’s long time friend was already on his way out from Missouri and, we had already committed to joining them and so, 3 days after getting home from Colorado, we were packed up and heading back to Tahoe.
