Tuffy Security Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited
Security Deck Enclosure Installation Write-Up

Driving your Jeep JK Wrangler the way it was designed to be driven, both doorless and topless, is exhilarating, liberating and of course, a whole lot of fun. Unfortunately, driving your Jeep like this can also leave you with virtually no way to lock up and store valuable possessions if needed. Sure, you’ve got your glove box or center console but, even if they’ve been beefed up with a steel Tuffy Security solution, you’re still limited to only small objects. What if you have something big you need to lock up – maybe something that can only fit in the trunk area of your Jeep? Fortunately for us, Tuffy Security has an answer for that as well and it’s with their JK Security Deck Enclosure.Constructed out of welded 16 gauge steel, heavy duty fasteners and finished with a durable textured powder coating, the Tuffy Security JK Deck Enclosure is designed to completely enclose the rear trunk area of your Jeep JK Wrangler and work in conjunction to the rear door and lock. And, in addition to being a highly functional mod, it’s also one that is affordable and easy to install.

Use an XACTO knife to cut a small hole through the carpeting at the point where the hexagonal hole is so that you can have access to it.

  1. Looks great Eddie. I’m happy to say that on the last trip, mine didn’t rattle at all.

  2. No more rattles with mine either. I’ve had it since last June and I love it. Looks great, secure and the only rattles I’ve ever had were the side trays but I wedged a piece of rubber and the rattle stopped. Great product and it comes packaged where it couldn’t get hurt if UPS tried to hurt it.

  3. I almost sent you a write up about this. I love it, but I had one problem. I have a 2010 unlimited, and installed it with my brother a couple Saturdays ago. After everything is installed I had a problem with the top lid rubbing hard against the back door. I had to cut it back a bit and put the rubber seal back on. Overall a great product.

  4. This has been one of my favorite add-ons. I shoot skeet and trap every weekend. The gun cases fit nicely inside for transport. It is also really cool to be able to stack on top as needed. I have not noticed any change in sound from the subwoofer.

  5. I can’t tell if it affects the sub or not, but can just turn it up if your not getting enough. Ha. The front panel can be removed, but then you could just put down the seats to get in.

  6. Eddie, thanks for showing how this works at one of the Suds N Grub. It integrates nicely in the JK even with the added rear door mounted table that you have installed. I’ll have to get both of these items for my JK.

  7. Just installed one of these tonight. Works great! I didn’t have the subwoofer so my install at steps 17-19 is a bit different. I ran into two issues mounting the side panels

    1. Each side screws into the openings in the body in just below the roll bars using a rubber well nut insert. The supplied washers are too small and it’s easy for them to slip through the large opening in the side panels. I swapped out for some larger diameter washers I had laying around and all was good.

    2. The right side panel uses the same well nut system to mount to the floor if you don’t have a subwoofer. The bolt isn’t long enough to penetrate through all the carpeting and engage the threads in the well nut. I had to cut a line in the carpeting and tuck the mount flange under the carpeting (or use a longer bolt but I didn’t have one in my bucket of spare bolts/washers/etc).

Pics available of my workarounds if anyone wants them.

  8. I’m thinking about getting one of the units for my 2008 Wrangler Unlimited but have a simple but maybe stupid question…my whole purpose for getting this unit would be so I could have my soft top on and have some lockable space. Couldn’t someone easily reach in, unlock the doors from the front console and then simply open the rear hatch and have access to the compartment? Is there a way to disengage the rear hatch lock from the auto lock/unlock button on the front console? Thanks in advance for your comments!

  9. Jessica. If I understand correctly, the lock mechanisms are “disabled” approx. 16 seconds after locking Jeep doors with factory key.
That is how I saw it written and I can only assume that, unless you unlock them using the key, they will not unlock. In other words, the security system will not allow the doors to be unlocked manually while it is enabled. My 2009 Unlimited Rubicon (Hardtop/full doors) has the door lock switches on the doors. You say console, I guess that is where the 2008 has them?
I am guessing that if my top was off, and someone reached “over” the upper door or through an open window to unlock, nothing would happen (no unlock) and possibly the alarm would sound.
