Before our friend mituk and his kids had to leave Tahoe, we decided to get one more easy run in just to see the sights, soak up the warm sun and relax along the shores of the Lost Lakes.

In all the years my family and I have been coming up to Tahoe for the summer, this was the first one that we’ve seen so much snow stick around so long and well into the month of July. In fact, by the 4th of July weekend, we had heard that nobody had been able to run the entire length of the Rubicon Trail.
In all the years we have been coming up to Tahoe in the summer, I’d have to say this is the first time that we’ve seen so much snow stick around for so long. In fact, even though it’s July, we had heard reports that the Rubicon Jeep Trail was still covered in deep snow from about the top of Cadillac Hill, down to the staging area near Tahoma and enough so that buggies were only recently breaking trail over the 4th of July weekend.

On our way up this year, we decided to take a slight detour up U.S. Route 6, head up and over the White Mountains and explore some of the cool ghost towns in Nevada’s Candelaria Hills.
