The weekend before Thanksgiving, Cindy and I were getting the itch to get out and do some rockhounding. We had been reading about some trilobite fossils that can be found south of Goldfield, NV and so we decided to pack our bags and our Jeep Renegade and headed on out.
Back before the invention of GPS, radar or even rudimentary radio communication, there were brave pilots who flew across vast empty stretches of America using […]
As some of you may know, we’ve been looking for and photographing these 50 ft. arrows and on occasion, towers as well for over two years now and on this trip, it was our hope to find a few located all the way out on the eastern edge of the state.
With all the snow that we just got up in the Reno/Carson City area, Cindy and I were just itchin to get out and play in it. So, after taking care of some work, we packed up Rubicat and made our way over to a trail that starts on the west end of Reno and climbs up the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Last week, Cindy I got a call from our good friends Chris and Jen and they wanted know if we might want to hook up with them to do some ghost town exploring in the Northern Nevada desert.
Even though it had been a long standing tradition of ours to end our summer with a camping trip up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, it had literally been 5 years since the last time Cindy and I have had a chance to do it.
For the first time since it was closed over 3 years ago, Cindy and I got a chance to run the Barrett Lake Jeep Trail and thanks to the new gate at the trailhead which now measures 86″, we were able to do it in Moby. Here are a few pics from our recent first run of this newly re-opened trail – I hope you enjoy.
Without question, the WAYALIFE EPIC TREX Rockin Rubicon Runs are always a great time but with almost 30 Jeeps and well over 50 amazing people coming from as far away as Idaho, Ohio, New York and Massachusetts, I’d have to say that this was by far one of the best ones ever!
A year ago, 9 Jeeps and 15 members of WAYALIFE made our way back to Independence, Missouri, to embark on an epic trek back to California, in our modern day prairie schooners and by following the original Emigrant Trail and closely as possible. As was the case for so many of the emigrants 150 years ago, our journey west ended in a bust after one of the Jeeps in our caravan suffered a terrible accident crossing the Nevada desert.
It’s been a real long time since Cindy and I have had a chance to run the Rubicon with a small group and felt fortunate when Adam (Overlander JK) asked if we could lead a trip across it with a few of his friends. Of course, as luck would have it, his friends Chris (Irish JK) and Kristen, Garrett (SDG), Russ (ttfhell) and Doug (Trail Bud) just happen to be our friends as well and all of them have built up rigs running ProRock axles and EVO coil overs.
In spite of the fact that we decided to head out into the middle of Nevada where it should have been warm, we instead found ourselves in a storm that left the desert soggy and filled with mud. Still, we were able to have a ton of fun and the rest of the weekend ended up being nice, sunny and relaxing.
