When it comes to off-road performance shocks, few companies have the history and outstanding reputation that Rancho has been able to create for itself over the last 50 years. Needless to say, when it came time for me to start looking for a new set of extended shocks to go with the 4.5" of lift that I now have on my Jeep JK Wrangler, Rancho was the first company I turned to for help.

Now, while one of my biggest criteria in choosing a new shock was ride comfort, another big deciding factor was being able to get a set that would provide the optimal amount of articulation that my Full Traction Suspension would allow. Fortunately, Rancho has one of the largest selection of shocks you can find and in a myriad of compressed/extended lengths available for the Jeep JK Wrangler. Likewise, being that their RS 9000X shocks are adjustable up to 9 different setting, from firm to soft, ride comfort can be dialed in with the simple twist of a knob.

For my purposes, I decided to go for the gusto and picked up a set of Rancho RS 9000X Pro Series Remote Reservoir Shocks and the write-up below will show you how you can install a set on your Jeep JK Wrangler.

That’s it, your new Rancho 9000X Pro Series Remote Reservoir Shocks are installed and you should be good to go. I say should because after doing some testing , I found that my 37×13.50 Toyo M/T’s would rub the front reservoirs at a full stuff a bit and my driver side rear piggyback bushing was catching the track bar axle mount just by a hair. After some minor adjustments to my Full Traction control arms, the rear shocks clear just fine now but up front, I will have to relocate the reservoirs in order to prevent the minor rubbing I am seeing now.

So, how do these shocks perform? Simply awesome!! For optimal comfort, running the Rancho 9000X Pro Series Remote Reservoir Shocks at a setting of 5 up front and 3 in the rear provide a very comfortable ride on pavement and on washboard roads. On the rocks, I have found that bumping the fronts up to 7 or 8 and the rears up to 5 or 6 (depending on how much I’m carrying in the back of my Jeep) dampened things extremely well and without being kidney busting harsh.

I’ll be sure to update this write-up if anything else comes up. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Made by American Expedition Vehicles, the AEV JK Jack Base is a molded plastic block that is broad enough to give you a larger foot print and stability in soft sand, has a keyed foot print for your factory scissor jack to prevent slipping and is tall enough to provide an additional 3-1/2" of lift. And for me, one of the nicest features of the AEV JK Jack Base is that it has been designed with a form fitted shape so that it can be stored snuggly in your Jeep JK Wrangler’s rear floor storage compartment when not in use.

The AEV Jack Base for 2007-08 Wrangler provides 3-1/2 inches of added lift height to the stock "scissors" jack - allowing tires of up to 37" or more to be changed with ease and stability. The large 7.5" x 10.5" base gives the jack better stability in off-road and soft soil conditions. Handy compartments in the base store your AEV lug nut extension, and there’s even a slot for the OE wheel lock key. Base is shaped to fit neatly into the rear floor compartment and out of sight. The Jack Base can also double as a wheel chock to prevent a disabled vehicle or trailer from rolling. A must-have for any serious off-road enthusiast.

This is what the AEV JK Jack Base looks like. As you can see, the JK Jack Base is quite tall, has a keyed footprint for your factory scissor jack and is much wider at the base which will provide a wider foot print and greater stability in soft sand.

When using the AEV JK Jack Base, the only thing you need to make sure of is that the long flat vertical side is facing the tire being changed and the curved side facing the center of your Jeep. Other than that, it really is a no-brainer to use.

I have had an opportunity to use my AEV JK Jack base on 2 separate occasions now and on both occasions, the tires were larger than stock, were on a lifted Jeep and the ground we were sitting on was very soft desert wash sand. Needless to say, every feature of the AEV Jack Base made it possible to change out these tires quickly and with ease.

Due to the overwhelming traffic we saw and subsequent server crash we experienced over on JK-Forum.com during our last Giveaway, we will be conducting a ”Stress Test” on Tuesday, April 29th with the intensions of pushing our current server setup to the limit. By doing this, it is our hopes find any bugs in the system and/or make any needed upgrades to get it ready for the BIG Wild Boar Roof Rack System Giveaway that will occur on May 15th. Of course, in order to make this “Stress Test” successful, we will be needing your help. Specifically, we will need you to be a registered member of JK-Forum.com, post (1) ONE response in the official thread and then be logged in on Tuesday, April 29th between the hours of 4:00-7:00 PM PST/7:00-10:00 PM EST. Of course, to make this test worth your time, we will be giving away a Project-JK T-Shirt or Northridge4×4 Baseball Cap to 10 lucky members, picked at random and who are online to receive the prize during that time. And, assuming our server does not crash, it is my hope that we will also be able to beat our ‘most users ever online’ record of 587 which was set during the last Giveaway.

Official Project-JK.com STRESS TEST Swag Giveaway Thread

JK-FORUM.COM GIVEAWAY RULES: Manufacturers and vendors may not enter into this giveaway and will not be eligible to win. Only (1) ONE post per user will be allowed in the official giveaway entry thread and multiple posts will disqualify you from the drawing. The official winners of this JK-Forum.com Stress Test Giveaway will be selected on April 29th between the hours of 4:00-7:00 PM PST/7:00-10:00 PM EST, by random drawing and the winners MUST be online at the time of the drawing and present to accept their prize. If the winners are not present to accept the prize, a new winner will be selected. More information and details will be posted as they become available.

For those of you looking to upgrade your Jeep JK Wrangler’s stock front track bar with an adjustable one, TeraFlex has just released one that I think you’ll want to give a look. Without a doubt, this new massive heavy duty forged adjustable track bar is designed to be the ultimate in front end strength, will eliminate any front end shimmy or handling issues and is designed to cycle through the full movement of suspension travel without interfering with other components (Please note that it is recommended that this track bar be used on a JK with 4” of lift, as it may cause some interference on a stock to a 3″ lifted JK) . As stated by TeraFlex, “this Monster trackbar is 230% stronger than the factory trackbar”, requires NO bracketry changes and is a complete bolt on component that can be installed in about half an hour.

Now, if you would like to order a TeraFlex Heavy Duty Adjustable Forged Front Track Bar for your Jeep JK Wrangler, the MSPR on it is only $199.99 and the part number for it is #1753419. Also, for those of you who already own a TeraFlex track bar and wish to upgrade to this Heavy Duty Adjustable Forged one, please give Joe Thompson in the TeraFlex Customer Service Department a call at: 801-288-2585 and request an RMA#. From there, all you need to do is send in your old TeraFlex trackbar with the RMA number as well as $45 (includes the cost of return shipping to you) and TeraFlex will send you a new upgraded Heavy Duty Forged Front Trackbar.

WILD BOAR CARGO RACK SYSTEMS
Whether you are a serious off-road enthusiast, a casual weekend excursionist or a Wrangler aficionado, you know that storage space in your Wrangler is at a premium. There is not a lot of room to stow your gear without drastically reducing the interior cabin capacity. That’s fine if you are flying solo or carrying smaller items, but you need a better solution if you have passengers, camping gear, outdoor toys and other large cargo.

Wild Boar’s Cargo Rack Systems are the most functional cargo solutions available. Our rack systems received the Chrysler Design of Excellence award in 2001 and we have continued to enhance and improve our rack design every year since.

CONSTRUCTION
Our award-winning rack systems are constructed of 1½ inch tubular steel with solid-weld construction for durability and strength. With a black marine powder-coat finish to withstand the elements, rubber saddle dampeners to eliminate rack rattle between the rack frame and the detachable cargo basket, quick-release spin knobs to lock the basket down and gas-powered shocks to hold the basket in the upright position when it is open, the 2008 Wild Boar Cargo Rack system is the ultimate in rack design and functionality.

Our Cargo Rack systems feature a low profile design. The rack design hugs the lines of the wrangler while only adding 7 inches to the overall height off of the hard top (6 inches from the highest point of the soft top). The removable cargo basket contributes 3.5 inches to that number.

ADJUSTING YOUR TOP
Jeep owners have long recognized that the problem with traditional cargo rack designs has always been how to adjust or change the top after installing a cargo rack. This has been a particularly vexing problem for owners of soft tops. Roof mounted cargo racks are not an option for soft top owners and body mounted cargo racks often require either partial rack disassembly or soft top strut support disassembly to remove the soft top.

Wild Boar’s quick-release, tilting basket allows for the full range of soft top adjustments. No more jumping through hoops just to take your top down. Simply unlock the two spinner knob controls and the gas powered shocks help tilt the basket up and out of the way. Adjust your soft top and push the basket down in place and lock the spin knobs and you are done.

Hard top adjustments are just as convenient. Wild Boar’s Cargo Rack design allows all standard and aftermarket hard tops to slide through the back of the rack frame unhindered. If you have a Jeep Freedom top, or a Wild Boar Fastback T-Top, there is ample clearance below the cargo basket for you to adjust your over-head panels. And you can always tilt the basket up and out of the way for even more room.

OPTIONAL CANOPY
Wild Boars patent-pending rack design offers even more utility. The quick-release tilting basket opens a full 180 degrees to accommodate an optional Wild Boar canopy accessory. 2007 model cargo racks for the JK 2-door tilt the basket to the rear of the vehicle while all of the new ’08 models for both 2-door and 4-door Wrangler TJ and JK models tilt the basket to the passenger side of the vehicle.

MOUNTING COMPATIBLITY & ACCESSORIES
Our rack systems are compatible with a variety of Hi-Lift, Thule, Yakima, and AutoHome clamp & mounting systems. Wild Boar offers a full range of rack accessories including lighting, camper-tops, canopies, rack pads, straps and cargo nets to help you get the most from your Cargo Rack.

RECOMMENDED USAGE GUIDELINES
Wild Boar Cargo Rack Systems have a recommended operational (moving) capacity of 200 lbs and a stationary capacity of 1000 lbs. The manufacturer of your vehicle has a specified GVW (gross vehicle weight) limitation. This is based on stock springs, tire dimensions, body strength and other specifications. Aftermarket parts, such as oversized tires, lift kits, and shock replacements will further alter the GVW and the vehicles safe operational center of gravity. You must remember that any load that you place on top of your vehicle will significantly change the center of gravity, handling, maneuverability and braking characteristics of your Wrangler and may increase the vehicle’s tendency to roll over. Always keep this in mind as you stow gear on your cargo rack. Be sure to distribute the weight evenly, secure the cargo fully and NEVER exceed the manufacturer’s cargo weight recommendations or you may put your vehicle and yourself in danger.

EASE OF ASSEMBLY
Wild Boar Cargo Rack systems are incredibly easy to assemble and install. With only 4 points of installation, two of which use the existing front windshield brackets that are used for mounting, you will be up and running in no time. Just grab a friend, a drill with a 5/16” bit, a ½” wrench, and an Allen wrench and a rubber tapping mallet and follow the directions and your rack will be assembled and installed in approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

WARRANTY
Wild Boar Cargo Rack systems all come with a one year nationwide warranty. If your Wild Boar Cargo Rack system fails during normal operations you are covered.

From the Manufacturer

AEM designs its BRUTE FORCE intakes for popular trucks, SUVs and late-model, fuel injected musclecars, and dyno-tunes each system to produce more torque and horsepower for large displacement engines. We test against the competition with the goal to outperform all other offerings.

Our mechanical engineers emphasize tuning the resonance properties of the inlet pipe to help carry more air to the intake valves. We route our plumbing so that the filter draws air from the safest and coolest location, and provide a steel powdercoated heat shield to shroud the filter from engine heat and road dirt. Every BRUTE FORCE intake we make is 50-state legal or pending legality (excluding “Off Road” systems), and we guarantee them for life.

Our R&D testing procedures and quality-first manufacturing processes set our intakes apart. But what makes our intakes better is that we make more torque and horsepower and deliver superior filtration and performance available through our DRYFLOW Synthetic filter. Combine this with compete hardware in every kit, a steel heat shield, reinforced brackets, unmatched looks and a lifetime guarantee, and it’s easy to see why BRUTE FORCE Intakes deliver the most “Air Power.”

• Manufactured and assembled in the USA
• Dyno tuned to produce maximum horsepower and torque
• 50-state legal or pending legality
• AEM’s lifetime DRYFLOW Synthetic air filter is 99.53% efficient in FINE DUST testing, filters dirt as small as one micron, and never needs filter oil!
• Inlet constructed lightweight 6063 aluminum and mandrel bent for maximum flow
• Reinforced TIG-welded brackets and fittings deliver added durability

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Seattle, April 7/ARB 4×4 Accessories/ To meet the demand of off-roaders looking to strengthen their current axles without going to the expense and weight penalties of a larger axle assembly, ARB has just released the latest model in their Performance Air Locker Series. Designed for the new 2007 Jeep Wrangler JK rear Dana 44, this new performance ARB Air Locker allows users to gain the axle strength they need from larger aftermarket 35 spline shafts and still retain their smaller, lighter Dana 44 assemblies.

Referred to as ARB part number RD147, this new Air Locker will accept 35 spline axle shafts which improve the torque range by about 30% over the stock 30 spline shafts that come installed in the JK Dana 44. As with other ARB Air Locker models, the RD147 features ARB’s patented “timed” locking mechanism that optimizes the Air Locker’s internal gear mesh in the locked configuration and increases the unlocking speed all at the touch of a dash mounted switch. Complete with the proven steel reinforced, elastomer bonded annular seal, this Air Locker is designed to handle the most extreme climatic temperatures on earth.

Using the very latest in parametric solid modeling systems and analysis packages, ARB’s engineering team was able to perform comprehensive, live and virtual testing to develop a most impressive final product. The 35 spline, JK Wrangler rear Dana 44 Air Locker is available through any ARB retailer by ordering ARB part number RD147.

Suggested retail price: $932.47

ARB Air Locker Features:
• Provides 100% traction on demand without affecting on road drivability or driveline wear.
• Vastly improved traction means less reliance on momentum, which reduces the likelihood of vehicle damage or environmental impact.
• Easy, convenient operation allows the user to concentrate on the terrain without leaving the comfort and safety of the driver’s seat.
• Ultra durable and extremely strong - only the highest quality materials used in construction.
• Incredibly simple yet effective design that employs minimal moving parts, thereby ensuring
maximum reliability.
• Thoroughly tested and proven design - trusted and used in over 80 countries around the world.

This latest Project-JK Moab Easter Jeep Safari 2008 YouTube video is of a sunset run that we did up the Kane Creek on Day 3 and is in fact the second run we did that day. Earlier in the day, we attended the Superior Axle and Full Traction Suspension - The Rock V event which was held over at Area BFE and did a run up Green Day. But, being that the last video of Steel Bender was on the long side and of a harder trail, we felt that it would be nice to mix things up a bit and put this easier and more scenic run in between the two.

In addition to our normal SoCal crew, Jason (SDMF), Jen (toad), Jeff (Bullfrog), Cindy (WOLette) and I, we were able to pick up a few more people that we met in Moab who wanted to join us including Wayne, his wife Kathy and son Aaron as well as Brian (Bracket) and his wife Lauren. As mentioned, Kane Creek is for the most part an easy and very beautiful trail but there are times when the creek, which you have to cross numerous times, can be deep enough to be impassable. I should also note that there are also a few rocky ledges situated on a high shelf road towards the end of the trail that can be a lot of fun for a modified JK to play on but might be quite difficult for a stock Jeep to negotiate if not impossible without some assistance. And, perhaps it’s for these reasons that this trail gets a ‘difficult’ rating.
